Desert mesa at sunrise

We just returned from a four-day trip to Utah. Oh. My. God. We thought that living in the Pacific Northwest, we pretty much had the monopoly on outdoor beauty. And we'd both been in the Southwest some and thought we'd seen it. Well, if you've never been to Zion National Park and the surrounding areas, you pretty much should be booking your ticket RIGHT NOW!

On our hike up Observation Pt (the sister hike to Angels Landing in Zion) we *tried* to start a rule along the lines of "No more than one 'Wow' per 2 minutes." But we never even came close to obeying it. Beyond belief, that's really what that area is.

As a photographer, I was immediately depressed knowing I couldn't possibly do it justice or even come close to capturing it. No lens, no camera, no photographer in the world could hit all of it. And I've never shot landscape so I tried to learn as quickly as possible.

This shot was at sunrise on our final day and so far it's one of my favorite shots from the trip. The sky, the desert in front, the light streaking across the top, the incredible colors. For me, it's pretty good. That said, I've got a lot to learn and WOW what a place to go back to.
